Sri Lanka: 51 vehicles belonging to the presidential secretariat gone missing & another 53 given to others

According to latest report of the National Audit Office tt has not been possible to find any information regarding 51 vehicles belonging to the Presidential Secretariat.

Report covers the period until the end of 2022.

The report states  that due to the inability to find the location of the relevant vehicles, it is also impossible to find their value.

Meanwhile, the National Audit Office also mentions that 53 vehicles owned by the President’s Office have been released to other government institutions, temples, religious leaders and members of parliament outside of formal procedures.

According to the  report, the President’s Office has spent 13 million rupees as maintenance expenses for 27 vehicles in 2022 alone. The audit department points out that these expenses have not been reimbursed or processed.

In this regard, the National Audit Office has made inquiries to the Presidential Secretariat on several occasions, but no formal reply has been given to them.
