Sivajilingam interrogated for calling military to vacate Valvettithu’rai town

07 May 2011,
Former Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian MK Sivajilingam was summoned on Thursday by the occupying Sri Lanka military in Valvettithu’rai and was interrogated for about half an hour. The reason for the interrogation was his manifesto for the forthcoming local body elections in which he has called for the shifting of the SL military camps from the Valveddiththu’rai town area, as they cause much inconvenience to the free movement of the public, alleges Mr. Sivajilingam, who contests for the Town Council of Valveddiththu’rai under TNA ticket.

His call for shifting the military camps had been twisted and reported to the SL Army, as that was a call for the removal of the camps, said Mr. Sivajilingam.

He said that he had tabled his election manifesto to the scrutiny of the Army interrogators and had said that would be prepared to face any further interrogations if needed.

According to Mr. Sivajilingam, he called in his manifesto for the shifting of the military camps to other suitable areas, as the Valveddiththu’rai town is unable to function normally because the Army is presently occupying the property of people in the town area.

Misunderstandings are caused by the EPDP of ruling Colombo, alleged Sivajilingam.

The interrogation was smooth he said.

People in Valveddiththu’rai were agitated over the incident.
