Cabinet has approved a proposal to appoint an inter-ministerial committee for the preparation of a National Action Plan for Human Rights for the period from 2017 to 2021.
The previous five-year action plan for human rights was implemented from 2012 to 2016 and expires this year. It is in light of this that a proposal was made by Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Samaraweera to appoint such a committee to consider all facts related to human rights in preparation for the drafting of a new action plan, the Government noted.
