(Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe met with the Japanese Foreign Minister )
The Japanese Government says it will back Sri Lanka’s domestic process to address issues related to the war, the office of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said today.

Wickremesinghe had talks with Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida in Japan today while on a five day visit to the country.

At the meeting, the Japanese Foreign Minister had noted the efforts of the new Government to win the confidence of the international community.

Kishida said that as a close friend of Sri Lanka, the Japanese Government will assist Sri Lanka as it looks to create a new country.

“I believe our relationship will grow stronger through the discussions to be held during your visit,” the Japanese Foreign Minister told Wickremesinghe.

He said Japan has taken note of the efforts of the new Government to create a conducive environment for investors in Sri Lanka.

Wickremesinghe noted that Japan was one of five countries which first established diplomatic relations with Sri Lanka.

He said that Sri Lanka will extend its full corporation to ensure Japan obtains a permanent seat in the UN Security Council.
