If President Mahinda Rajapaksa takes measures to call for a presidential election without a constitutional amendment, every necessary measure needed to defeat him would be taken, convener of the ‘Pivithuru Hetak’ organisation – Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thero announced this evening (Oct. 14).
The Thero was speaking at the BMICH while unveiling a set of proposals calling for a constitutional amendment and abolishing executive presidency.
The set of proposals, formulated by the ‘Pivithuru Hetak’ organisation, needs to be implemented before holding a presidential election, the Thero emphasised.
The Thero further added that the proposals also called for the establishment of independent commissions and the abolishment of the preferential vote system.
