The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has taken steps to seal the underground detention facility known as the “Gun Site”, located within the Trincomalee Navy Camp.
This development marks a significant step in the long-running investigation into allegations that nearly 60 individuals were unlawfully detained at the site. Reports suggest that those held there were subjected to torture and linked to a range of serious crimes, including extortion.
The Trincomalee Magistrate is scheduled to visit the location tomorrow to carry out an official on-site inspection, which is expected to play a key role in advancing the investigation.
This case is closely connected to the ongoing court proceedings concerning the abduction and disappearance of 11 youths. However, new evidence now indicates that additional individuals may also have been detained at this secret facility.
Among related cases:
- The disappearance of an individual named Shantha in Kegalle is currently being heard at the Polgahawela Magistrate’s Court.
- Investigations into the cases of two Tamil youths in Colombo are being examined before Colombo Magistrate’s Court No. 3.
- The disappearances of Ibbagamuwe Pradeep and two young women in Trincomalee have also been formally reported to the courts.
Authorities report that both former detainees and individuals connected to the operation of the site have come forward to provide confidential statements before the Magistrate. These testimonies are expected to contribute critical evidence to the ongoing legal proceedings.
