A person who had been apprehended by protesting Development Officers during a noisy demonstration outside the Education Ministry at Isurupaya and handed over to police was subsequently identified as a member of the Military Intelligence, reports The Island.
Development Officers attached to the education Ministry demanded that they be absorbed in the teaching profession. Previous governments appointed unemployed graduates to various departments as a political move without any specified job description.
Protestors complained that the person handed over to police has vanished and he was not in police custody!
Police have tole The Island that those demanding they be made permanent in the teaching service alleged that the apprehended man allegedly caused injuries to policemen deployed at the scene.
A Sub-Inspector of Police (SI) and two constables were injured.
Political commentators questions whether even under the new government military intelligence saboteurs are employed to discredit peaceful demonstrators.
