COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (NewsCutter)– A person has tragically died as a result of the recent police crackdown on a protest organized by the National People’s Power (NPP) movement.
According to Tilvin Silva, the General Secretary of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), the victim was a resident of Niwithigala in Rathnapura. In a statement to the media, Silva expressed his deep sorrow at the loss of life, emphasizing that it was a tragedy that someone had to pay the ultimate price for defending democracy.
Silva stated that the government must take full responsibility for the excessive force used to quell the protest.
