Sri Lanka: EPDP Devananda to back NPP

EPDP leader Douglas Devananda has declared that his party would back President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s National People’s Party (NPP) in the next Parliament.

The declaration was made at a public gathering held in Vavuniya on Sunday (27).

Having disclosed that he had met President Dissanayake, the former Minister said that the NPP leader’s stance on the ethnic issue hadn’t changed and he was confident of working with the new leader.

The ex-parliamentarian claimed that his party would be able to secure as many as 10 seats in the Northern and Eastern electorates.

The former Jaffna district lawmaker said that no other Tamil politician had so much experience in working with governments under different presidents and Dissanayake would be the 8th President he would be working with.

At the Presidential Election, Devananda backed independent candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe,
