Sri Lanka: BASL warns president of dangerous repercussions arising form deploying military to manage fuel distribution or hinder protests

Bar Association of Sri Lanka  has written to the President Rajapaksa, stressing inter alia, that the military must be deployed only in limited circumstances as per the law and that it’s inappropriate to deploy them as done at present in matters which essentially should be managed by the Police, or to hinder protests.

The statement says that Sri Lanka Army and other services personal must be deployed only in very limited circumstances as contemplated in the criminal procedure code.
