Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya has rejected the ‘Darusman report’ compiled by the panel of experts appointed by UN Secretary General Ban ki-moon.
He also said that a committee appointed by the Army is now working on a response to the report which was made public recently by the UN Chief.
Speaking during a visit to the East today the Army Chief said that he had read the entire report and as the former ground Commander of the Wanni operations during the final stages of the war he knows what exactly took place.
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya noted that the ‘Darusman report’ has been compiled based on submissions made by some groups and individuals but the information has not been substantiated with evidence.
He added that it is clear the motive behind the UN releasing this report to the public is to tarnish the image of the Army, the President and Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
He added that the army will however continue to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and bring credit to this country.
