UNP and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe told Parliament yesterday that Jaffna Security Forces Commander Maj. Gen. Mahinda Hathurusinghe was behind the attacks on a political rally held recently in Jaffna.The Opposition Leader said that he himself had attended the rally and some people had attempted to disrupt it. The personnel who came to disrupt the rally were military men in civvies.
There were military men in civvies serving in Jaffna and these personnel were under the command of Jaffna SF Commander.
He demanded to know as to how military men engaged in police duties.
Opposition leader said that he had informed all relevant officials of the situation, but no action had been taken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
He said that there could be secret plans to assassinate Tamil MPs just as the LTTE killed civilians.
Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa said when an MP made such a remark against a public servant in Parliament the issue had to be looked into.
The Opposition Leader made these remarks soon after TNA MP R Sampanthan made a special statement on current security situation in Jaffna.
