The body was made to appear as if the cause of death was a road accident, but police probing the case believe that the man was kidnapped and killed after a brawl. The dead man is believed to be a friend of Asitha, an underworld leader who was killed while in prison.
According to police, he is also a suspect in the killing of one Dhammika’s mother whose son died in a police shooting and identified as a leader of an underworld gang in Divulapitiya. Kotadeniyawa HQI B. R. Dayaratne suspects the dead man had been killed and special teams are to investigate the matter.
Police said the dead man’s motor bicycle engine was running while his mobile phone, two empty liquor bottles and shoes were found in different places.
Police believe he was killed elsewhere and dumped here. Police were told that a white van was seen at the spot last Wednesday night. A team headed by HQI D. Gammanpila is investigating the case while the magisterial inquiry was held by K. A. Ariyatilleke, Acting Magistrate, Minuwangoda. The magistrate had ordered police to have an autopsy conducted and obtain a report.
