In a letter to Gota-appointed Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapakshe, who has submitted a draft 21st Amendment, leader of the opposition Sajith Premadasa pointed out that the proposed draft strengthen President’s executive powers contrary to the 19th amendment.
The new draft by the government looks at enabling the President to hold ministerial portfolios. Under the 19th amendment president Sirisena was allowed to hold defence an environment ministries only as a interim arrangement.
