President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed directors for three Presidential Projects in the Uva, North-Western and Central Provinces while another Special Presidential Project Officer has been appointed for the Polonnaruwa District, the Presidential Media Unit reports.
These directors have been appointed over the cabinet ministers in charge of development. Further Provincial Councils too have minsters in charge of development. These appointments run counter to devolution of power and 13th amendment.
According to the Government news portal News.lk former deputy minister Eric Weerawardena was appointed to the Central Province, former deputy minister Shantha Bandara to the North-Western Province and former minister Jagath Pushpakumara to the Uva Province as directors for special presidential projects while Premasiri Munasinghe has been appointed as special presidential project officer to the Polonnaruwa District.
A notaable development is that president’s home town, Polonnaruwa district has a special project officer now.
