[Politics of stones and attacks: damaged vehicle of a UNP group]
A group of UNP parliamentarians who visited the training school of Sri Lanka Ports Authority in Slave Island have come under attack, Colombo media reports. The UNP MP team comprised of parliamentarians Ravi Karunanayake, R Yogarajan, Nalin Bandara, Ajith P Perera and Eran Wickramaratne.
Mp Ajith P Perera has said the Daily Mirror that two journalists were injured when stones were hurled at the MPs while they were leaving the premises.
Mr. Perera has further said that the MPs saw government employees and government property being used to make propaganda material for the election
This is the forth occasions UNP MPs came under attack form pro government groups while on inspection tours in recent time.
Speaking to Asian Mirror UNP parliamentarian Eran Wickramaratne had said that they went on a fact finding mission to the Ports Authority Training School to see whether state resources were being used for the presidential election campaign.
UNP MPs had received information that resources of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority were being used for propaganda activities targeting the forthcoming presidential election. Several people had pelleted stones at the UNP MP delegation and attacked their vehicles. None of the UNP parliamentarians received injuries due to the attack. However, he added that several vehicles were damaged due to the incident, according to Asian Mirror.
