English language Daliy Mirror reports that another suspect in the police custody has died after drowning. The newspaper does not probe the circumstances of the alleged incident other than publishing the police version. In recent times according o the police, number of suspects in their custody have jumped in to rivers while being hand cupped and died. Earlier suspects died in face encounters. Now they die in Rivers, trying to escape jumping in to rivers.! This killing adds to long list of unsolved custodial deaths in Sri Lanka.

The suspect who was arrested in connection with the killing of an eight-year-old girl in Akmeemana, Galle died after drowning in the Ma-Oya while attempting to escape from police custody, Police said today.
He had jumped into the Ma-Oya while the police was taking him to locate several weapons. The suspect died before being admitted to the Karapitiya hospital. Two police personnel who tried to save him were also admitted to the Karapitiya hospital.
