The military tried to stop a sport meet taking place in Vadamarachchi saying permission had not been obtained from the army and this had created a tense situation in the area.
All arrangements had been completed and the sports meet of Nethaji sports club in Kothiyaladi, Valvettithurai was about to start.
The club’s flag was hoisted in the centre of the ground when soldiers and police came into the grounds and insisted the club flag be brought down because permission was not taken to hold the sports meet.
After a long altercation the soldiers and the police told the club management to continue the sports meet. A tense situation prevailed in the Vadamaaraachchi area due to this incident.
