Milinda Moragoda family owned “Mercantile Credit” has absconded paying Rs. 30 Billion

Minister Wijedasa Rajapaksa speaking at the budget debate has said that Milinda Moragoda family owned “Mercantile Credit” has absconded paying Rs. 39 Billion:

“A loan of Rs. 5074 Million was obtained from central Bank of Sri Lanka citing institutional rehabilitation of Mercantile Credit. It has been several years since the loan was obtained, & this was highlighted in my 2007 COPE report.

Further, a committee was appointed to investigate the matter under the leadership of President’s Counsel Faiz Mustapha. No one knows what became of it.

With interest, the total amount of debt exceeds Rs. 30 Bn. This company has ties to the family of Milinda Moragoda & has absconded payment to the people of this county. However, Moragoda lectures on how to combat corruption”
