Mervyn challenges SLFP CC to try and take action

SLFP General Secretary, Minister Maithripala Sirisena said that there were two disciplinary enquiries instituted against Public Affairs Minister Mervyn Silva. One was regarding the allegations of extortion levelled against him by members of the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha, including the chairman.
He was yet to receive the official report on this inquiry at the local level.

The other was regarding Mervyn Silva not replying, for the past two weeks, the letter addressed to him asking whether the news reports regarding such allegations were correct or not. Instead, he had challenged the Central Committee of the SLFP to try and take action against him.

The SLFP General Secretary explained his position in response to a query regarding action taken in connection with allegations against MP Mervyn Silva, raised by the media at the conclusion of a Press briefing organized by the Party at the Mahaweli Center last afternoon.

The Senior Deputy Leader of the SLFP and Leader of House Minister Nimal Siripala Silva and Treasurer of the SLFP Minister Dulles Alahapperuma were also present.

“I have requested the Inspector General of Police (IGP) N. K. Illangakoon to inquire into these incidents and submit a full report on elected members of the SLFP at Provincial and Local level who were suspected of involvement in murder, extortion and dealing in narcotics,” he said.

The SLFP General Secretary said that he was yet to receive this report from the IGP.
