Many extreme crimes to be shelved including Sudarman Radaliyagoda case

It is revealed that a situation has arisen where police investigations into 86 extreme crimes are to be shelved. According to CID sources the crimes to be shelved involve extortion, murder and drug peddling.

It is revealed that among them are several crimes that sparked outrage in the country. It is also revealed that the crimes are to be shelved due to various levels of political connections the perpetrators have with the government.

The sources point out failure to apprehend Sudharman Radaliyagoda is a good example of the police inaction and the powerlessness the judiciary system in the country has been dragged into. The order to arrest and bring Sudharman Radaliyagoda before Court for a financial fraud had been made 8 months ago. However, the law and order situation in the country has been made so impotent that carrying out such an order too has been made impossible under the present set up.

According CID sources carrying out investigations regarding the aforesaid crimes is not impossible and there is no difficulty in recognizing the perpetrators. However, the only obstacle for carrying out investigations is the interference of the political authority they point out.
