Jayalalitha’s victory speech focuses on Eezham Tamils

“I will exert pressure on the central government, after I take over as the CM, to take action against Sri Lankan president before international court for genocide and war crimes. “

While most of the media in India don’t want to recognize the heart of the matter behind the unprecedented way in which Tamil Nadu voters turned out to teach a lesson to the regimes in New Delhi and Chennai, grasping the significance behind her historic victory, Ms. J. Jayalalitha on her victory speech in Jaya TV Friday, recognizing genocide and war crimes against Eezham Tamils said: “I will exert pressure on the central government, after I take over as the CM, to take action against Sri Lankan president before international court for genocide and war crimes.
India should take the initiative for this.” The general mood among Eezham Tamils in the island and in the diaspora over the TN election results was one that of vindication and jubilation. It has generated fresh hopes on the strength of public opinion in Tamil Nadu.

The main reason for the suffering of Tamils in Sri Lanka, according to the newly elected CM, is the Sri Lanka government, BBC Sinhala Service reported Friday, headlining its news, “Summon Mahinda to international court- Jayalalitha.”

“If Sri Lanka government did not oblige to these requests, Indian government has to impose economic sanctions on Sri Lanka together with other countries,” Ms Jayalalitha was quoted by BBC Sinhala Service.

Shocked at the electoral defeat but welcoming the overwhelming verdict of people, Mr Thirumavalavan, the leader of VCK and an ally of the Congress-DMK coalition implied that there was something more than development that appealed to the masses.

Meanwhile, a Troika led by Indian National Security Advisor, Shiv Shankar Menon, who sees that a ‘developing’ Tamil Nadu will not concentrate on Eezham Tamils, is visiting the island of Sri Lanka today before the new state government is formed in Chennai.

Rajapaksa regime that was guided by similar troikas from New Delhi in running its genocidal war earlier is harping much of New Delhi in continuing its agenda and in facing international indictment.

“As Tamils, it is our duty to ensure a good life for the Tamils in Sri Lanka,” Ms. Jayalalitha said in her first ever speech after her victory.

The ultimate guarantee for basic security, good life and long-lasting peace in the island lies only in the recognition of the nation of Eezham Tamils and its independence, sovereignty and right to self-determination, is the perception of Eezham Tamils that comes through their long agonizing experience.

Even in the European Parliament there seems to exist many honourable members who don’t know the meaning of genocide and the ingenious ways it is long practiced in the island of Sri Lanka. No wonder Colombo is recognized for setting a new model and even in teaching it. Ms. Jayalalitha’s recognition of genocide in the island is a very significant step coming from an Indian leader in power, after the times of Mrs. Indira Gandhi, commented Tamil Nadu diaspora circles.
