Jaffna University Teacher’s Union Rejects VC’s Letter Spporting Rajapaksa

Professor Vasanthi Arasaratnam, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jaffna has sent a greeting letter to Mahinda Rajapaksa wishing him for the victory in the forthcoming presidential election.

The Vice Chancellor has sent this letter to all faculties and departments seeking the support to Mahinda Rajapaksa in the forthcoming presidential election. She has written this letter to the faculty deans in order to get the signatures of the senior lecturers and the university teachers in the greeting letter to Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Mentioning this particular greeting letter as the righteous letter to be published in the newspapers, this letter asked the consent signatures in it. Minister Douglas Devananda is said to be the person who told the Vice-Chancellor to collect the supporting signatures like this.

Jaffna University Teachers’ Union has expressed its strong censure to this Vice Chancellor’s activity. The Teachers’ Union further highlighted that the university teachers have the ability to self-reflect.

Rasakumaran, the president of the Jaffna University Teachers’ Union, who has further highlighted that this government is responsible for the annihilation of Tamils, pointed out that such activities endangering the higher education by betraying our ethnicity cannot be accepted.

He further stated that they would not sign in this nasty letter. “Our thoughts and actions are towards the liberation and the bright future of our people”, he further underlined.
