Govt. and TNA to resume talks

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) is keen to recommence talks with the government, TNA Leader Rajavarothiam Sampanthan said today.

Speaking to Ceylon Today, Sampanthan said recommencing talks with the government would pave the way for the TNA to partake in the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) as well, as the agreement was for the consensus of talks to be then taken to the PSC.

“Out of no mistake of ours, and out of faults and lapses on the side of the government, the talks have broken down,” Sampanthan said.

“The talks being at a standstill is convenient for the government because they do not have to commit to anything substantial,” he added.

The Government and the TNA were in discussion to find a lasting solution to the island’s ethnic issue, but talks broke down at different points, and have since been stalled.
