Defence Ministry Informs Navy Commander to Take Legal Action Against Yoshitha Rajapaksa

The Defence Ministry has informed the Navy Commander to take legal action against Lieutenant Yoshitha Rajapaksa for allegedly touring foreign countries at his own discretion without seeking permission from the Navy Commander while he was attached to the Presidential Secretariat. Yoshitha Rajapaska has allegedly toured a number of countries during the time he was attached to the Presidenital Secretariat.

Investigations conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy have revealed threat Lt. Rajapaksa had not sought such permission from the Commander. Rajapaksa has not made any request from the Navy Commander in writing or verbally about such foreign tours.

Investigators have revealed that Lt. Rajapaksa has not informed his immediate superiors prior to undertaking such foreign tours.

If an officer undertakes a foreign tour without informing the Security Forces, that he is serving, legal action would be taken against such an officer. The Sri Lanka Navy authorities have failed to take action against Lieutenant Yoshitha Rajapaksa, though the latter had undertaken a number of foreign tours without informing the Navy Commander.

An internal inquiry was conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy over the arbitrary actions of Yoshitha Rajapaksa.

Navy authorities have referred the investigation report on Lieutenant Yoshitha Rajapaksa to the Defence Ministry several weeks ago. The Defence Ministry in return has informed the Navy Commander to take diciplinary action against Rajapaksa for allegedly violating the rules and regulations of the Sri Lanka Navy. Meanwhile, Navy sources said that investigations are going on against the persons who allegedly sanctioned expenses to the tune of nearly Rs. 20 million for overseas training given to Lieutenant Yoshitha Rajapaksa
