13 May 2011

Complaints made in regard to missing persons in the police stations in Vanni are on the increase, according to Kilinochchi district police.

Relatives of the missing persons make these complaints now as the war has ended and law and order has been properly established in these areas.

Complaints of those who went missing in the LTTE controlled areas,  and those who went missing during the war and  those who went missing recently after resettling are now made in the police stations in Vanni, say the police.

Police say that they are unable to handle the complaints regarding those who went missing in the LTTE controlled areas during the war, but will take necessary action in regard to those who went missing recently.

Kilinochchi police also say that in the case of those who went missing during the war, their relatives should obtain a letter of confirmation from the grama sevaka of their area and make complaints at the Joseph camp in Vavuniya.
