Civil society groups which singed agreements with the Maithipala Sirisena and Ranil Wickremesinghe respectively as presidential and prime Ministerial candidates are discussing to publicly annul those agreements in the face of lethargic attitude of the government towards fulfilling the promises made, informed souses told the Sri Lanka Brief.

Leading civil society groups have already met the president Sirisena and PM Wickremesinghe and voiced their concerns: delay in bringing the corrupt politicians to book, appointment pro-Rajapaksa individuals as presidential advisers, deplorable situation of the state controlled media so on.

Nearly 150 civil society organisations, under the leadership of the late Maduluwawe Sobhitha thero singed two separate  agreements in December 2014 and August 2015. Speaking at the public event present on 13th January chair of the Movement of the just society Prof. Sarath Wijesooriya stated that Maduluwawe thero was utterly disappointed  at the way government is being run.

Meanwhile Ceylon Today reports that most of the civil society groups which were instrumental in the setting up of the current regime have decided to issue their final warning to the government on its perceived failure to file legal action against any MP of the previous government on charges of fraud and corruption.

These civil society groups have stated that if the government fails to apprehend any of those found guilty of fraud and corruption before 4 February this year, they will take to the streets with the masses in a massive protest march.
