Chairman of Delimitation Committee Joins a Ruling Party Funtion

Mr. Jayalath Dissanayake the Chairman of the Delimitation Committee for demarcating the wards under the new Local Government elections acts has joined a ruling party function, according to the Sunday Times. The position of the Chair of the Delimitation Committee is an independent one of any political party affiliations.

Commenting on the incident National List UNP MP R.Yogarajan has called for the Chairman of the Delimitation Committee,Local Government bodies Jayalath Dissanayake to be dismissed from his post for ” being present at the inauguration of the Secretariat for the re-election of the President set up by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and declared open by Minister of Economic Developments Basil Rajapaksa and National Organiser of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.” reports the Island.

”The attendance of the Chairman of the delimitation committee at a function of a political party to ensure the election of that party’s candidate exposes the bias of the said Chairman and renders the work done by the committee under his Chairmanship null and void and unacceptable. A person of such calibre cannot be expected to have functioned without bias in his functions as Chairman of the said committee. Thus I request that Mr. Jayalath Dissanayake be dismissed from the position of Chairman and the work done so far be declared as invalid.” MP R.Yogarajan has insisted.

Other than the the Chairman of the Delimitation Committee , Secretary to the Ministry of Economic Development Dr. Nihal Jayatilleke,  Secretary to the Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Technology GotabayaJayaratna, Secretary to the Ministry of Ports and Highways RWR Premasiri, Secretary to the Ministry of Industries and Commerce AnuraSiriwardane, Secretary to the Ministry of Mass Media and Information CharithaHerath, and the Governor of the Central Bank AjithNivaard Cabral were among senior public servants who attended this event.
