India should play pro-active role on Lankan Tamils issue: CP

Seeking India’s pro-active role in addressing the Sri Lankan Tamils issue, CPI today said it will organise a nationwide solidarity day tomorrow to highlight the sufferings of the ethnic minority in the island.Even two years after the war ended in Sri Lanka, the Tamils were “suffering” in camps with “no rehabilitation”, CPI National Secretary D Raja said here.”Sinhala colonisation is taking place in the Tamil occupied areas. The UN committee, in its report, had also pointed out to war crimes committed by the Sri Lankan Army,” he alleged. He said the Indian governemnt should demand a fair and open trial on the issue of war crimes as more than 40,000 Tamils ‘have been killed’ and justice should be rendered.Raja said India had a “moral responsibility” on Sri Lankan Tamils issue as more than one lakh refugees live in Tamil Nadu.”India should play a pro-active role to ensure a political solution to Sri Lankan Tamils,” the CPI leader said appealing to other Left democratic parties to join tomorrow’s campaign.
