State-Run Newspaper company initiates disciplinary action against news editor for publishing 0pposition leader’s statement

(Asian Mirror) The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, commonly known as Lake House, a state-run newspaper company, has sparked concerns related to media freedom in Sri Lanka as it initiated disciplinary action against the News Editor of the Dinamina Newspaper, Mr. Nalin Dilruksha. This move came following the publication of a statement made by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa in the newspaper.

Opposition Leader Premadasa’s statement pointedly criticized the leadership of the country, alleging that while Sri Lanka grapples with financial challenges, its leaders engage in overseas tours.

Mr. Dilruksha has been requested to provide a written explanation as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.

This development has raised concerns about media freedom in Sri Lanka, as it implies potential repercussions for journalists and editors who publish statements or reports that may be critical of government officials.
