The Penal Code has been fraudulently used to arrest those who criticise the government though there are no such provisions for it, the JVP charged in Parliament today.
JVP Parliamentary Group Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake who raised a question on such arrests said today in parliament said that that the recent shooting by police in street protests in Katunayake and Chilaw have led to many individuals being arrested for criticising the government under section 120 of the penal code. He said section 120 does not prohibit anyone from opposing the government.
