Supporters of Kolonnawa Urban Council chairman Ravindra Udaya Shantha alias Suda clashed with an armed group that had tried to abduct him, reports said. The men who had come in a white van were foiled in the attempt by the UC chairman’s supporters.
The group had fled in their van, but were ambushed and confronted at Kolonnawa junction this afternoon (Mar. 10).

Three of them, believed to be soldiers of the Army, were captured by the politician’s men, according to reports.
The van, bearing no: WP CC 8649, was destroyed during the clash.
Following the incident, people of Kolonnawa are staging a protest in front of Wellampitiya Police Station.
This is the second abduction attempt targeting the Kolonnawa UC chairman, reports added.
