Laws must be introduced to regulate social media and web media, including Facebook, or it must be banned in Sri Lanka, Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva said.
Addressing Parliament today, the Minister pointed out social media was a key cause for incidents of child abuse.
Stating that he had raised the matter during the Cabinet meeting on multiple occasions, the Minister said it was essential to regulate or ban social media to prevent incidents of child abuse.
He further said social media platforms are not allowed to operate in China and urged the Government to introduce laws to regulate or ban social media in Sri Lanka
