Mannaar: Mothers of Disappeared Demand Action

The mothers of forcibly disappeared persons in Mannaar staged a silent protest on Monday demanding immediate attention from the Tamil National Alliance, the new Sri Lankan regime and the international community to establish the truth on the whereabouts of the persons who were made forcibly-disappeared by the occupying Sri Lankan military; to release the Tamil political prisoners from Sri Lankan jails; to continue the excavation of mass grave of Mannaar killing field and to continue the international investigations on Sri Lanka, reports Tamil Net.

The protesters were also demanding de-militarization of the Tamil homeland.

The representatives of the Citizens Committee of Mannaar, who organised the protest, said they were seeking an appointment with the SL President Maithiripala Sirisena so that the mothers could address their concerns directly to him.

The mothers of forcibly disappeared persons in North want Maithiripala Sirisena to prioritize the release of the Tamil political prisoners as part of his 100-day programme.

Mr Anthony Sagayam, the vice president of Mannaar Citizens Committee and B.A. Anthony Marc, the president of Mannaar Peace Committee took part in the protest.
