Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) has written to the Mayor of Colombo today (25 Nov) morning, requesting him to take immediate action regarding the display of 1800 election hoardings in CMC property without paying fees. Attached herewith is the letter CaFFE sent to the Mayor. Although CaFFE does not mention by name the cut-outs, it is common knowledge that vast majority of those cut-outs are of President Rajapaksa and of his Family members in politics.
Mayor – CMC,
Colombo 07,
November 25, 2014.
Mr. Mayor,
Displaying cutouts without paying charges
CaFFE has received that there are close to 1800 election cutouts in CMC limits. Some of these are attached to the ground using cement.
It is illegal for a candidate to display election propaganda when he has declared his intention to contest and we believe that these cutouts are being placed in some properties of the CMC. However no payment has been made to the CMC.
We kindly request you to take action against those who has allowed this to happen and to remove all the illegal election propaganda.
Thank you,
Yours sincerely,
Rajith Keerthi Tennakoon,
Executive Director – CaFFE
