The special computer crime unit, housed at the BMICH, is engaged in hacking electronic mail including the email accounts of some ministers, UNP Kurunegala district MP Dayasiri Jayasekera charged in Parliament yesterday.

He levelled the charges while speaking during the debate on the extension of emergency.

He said that both MPs and Ministers correspond via email and telephone and it is illegal to track them. “It is also a violation of their rights,” he said.

The MP said that university academics have become the target of attacks in the State media over statements they make. “It is a violation of the freedom of expression,” he added.

He also blamed the government for creating an environment where the UN Panel of Experts could issue an adverse report on Sri Lanka. “It is no use criticizing the UNP for not talking against the panel after giving an opportunity for the UN to act against Sri Lanka,” he said.

He added that the government needs to find a solution to the problem of the minority communities.
