TPA Mano Ganesan accuses ruling NPP of bulldozing parliamentary democratic system

Colombo, January 27- Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) accused ruling National People’s Power (NPP) of trying to bulldoze parliamentary democracy by not allowing the Opposition to have adequate representation in various committees in the House.

TPA Leader Mano Ganesan in a statement said it’s ironical to see the way the JVP led ruling party is acting as the party has campaigned with the rest of the Opposition to obtain chair positions in the parliamentary committees in the past.

“JVP MP Sunil Handunnetti chaired the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE). It was a democratic system and tradition in the House,” Ganesan said in his statement.

MP Ganesan also said “Today after coming into power the JVP, the party that promised ‘system change’ is bulldozing the parliamentary democratic system. It is systematically refusing to adequately incorporate the opposition in the Standing Committees, Caucuses and Foreign Friendship Associations.
