The Tamil National Alliance (TNA), during its meeting with the ruling party today, stressed the ongoing process of registration of lands in the north and the east, the decision to attach the Sinhala populated Welioya area to the Mullaitivu District and the move to send a Sinhalese Government Agent to Mannar should be stopped immediately.
TNA MP Suresh Premachandran told the Daily Mirror after the meeting that these were basic conditions to be fulfilled by the government for the continuation of dialogue between the two sides for the evolution of a solution to the national question.
He said that the government’s delegation agreed to bring these demands by the TNA to the notice to President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
“If the President is willing, he can stop these moves within a matter of a few hours,” Mr. Premachandran said.
He said that the displaced people in the areas such as Sampur should be resettled immediately.
On behalf of the government, External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris and MP Sajin Vaas Gunawardane participated in the meeting.
The TNA delegation comprised leader R. Sampanthan, MPs M.A. Sumanthiran, Mr. Premachandran, Mavai Senathirajah and President’s Counsel Kanag Iswaran. (Kelum Bandara)
