Yesterday (19) the Colombo Maligakanda magistrate court issued an injunction order that prohibits events commemorating Thiyagi Thileepan in the Colombo Maradana and Fort areas. This injunction order was issued in response to a request made by the Colombo Fort and Maradana police. This injunction order was issued against Rev.fr Sakthivel Lawyer Sanjula Pietersz and journalist Tharindu Uduwaragedara.

Meanwhile the request by police for a restraining order preventing the commemoration of LTTE cadre ‘Thileepan’ was rejected by the Vavuniya magistrate’s court. He was to be commemorated today (20) for the 36th year.
Vaviniya police moved that the commemoration of ‘Thileepan’ which included a demonstration along with a motorcade to Vavuniya town today was liable to result in a breach of peace.
The court rejected the request of the police and held that anyone had the right to commemorate the dead, but legal action should be taken against any breaches of law and order.
The Mullaitivu Magistrate’s Court too has rejected an application filed by the Mullaitivu Police seeking a ban on the commemoration of #ThiyagiThileepan. Meanwhile, a similar request has been submitted on behalf of the puthukkudiyiruppu , Mulliyawalai and oddusuddan police stations.
