Sri Lanka: Police seek public assistance to arrest 3 people preparing for a major attack- Divaina

The Terrorism Investigation Unit is seeking public assistance in arresting three Tamil suspects who were stockpiling weapons for a major attack, reports the Sinhala language daily Divaina on 21 August 2025, with the byline of Hemantha Randunu.

The report further says.

The details of this attack were revealed after a young man who was travelling in a three-wheeler in Kiribathgoda was arrested on July 21st with a T-56 weapon. Based on the information revealed during questioning of the suspect, the police had also found a stock of hand grenades hidden in a house in the Vavuniya area.

It was later revealed that the hand grenades had been prepared to be brought to Colombo. All the details about the three suspects who were storing the hand grenades have now been revealed by the Terrorism Investigation Unit.

The details of the suspects to be arrested are as follows.

Shivarupa Sujeepan is a 30-year-old resident of Gandhi Nagar, Seyakulam.

Ilanko Setchinnan, 27, is a resident of Menikhami Settikulam.

Mahendiran Yogaraja, 27, is a resident of Araly West Vadukotta.
