Operational Coordinator of the MPS, Duminda Nagamuwa addressing a media conference held at Hotel Nippon in Colombo yesterday said that the government must cancel the results released on Sunday night in toto and rescrutinize the answer scripts and release anew the right results. The erroneous results had caused frustration, anger and disappointment among all the candidates and their parents.
He said that some of the candidates who sat for the GCE Advanced Level 2011 exam in the commerce stream had received their results in maths stream subjects. Some in bio science stream have been given arts stream results. In one example, an English medium commerce student of Royal College received results for art subjects. Those responsible said that there were only mistakes in the district ranking of the results but later admitted there were more errors. “We call upon the government to cancel these confusing results and to re-evaluate the answer scripts and release results again,” Nagamuwa said.
He said that the MPS would decide on a future course of action against the injustice. “This is no simple matter as described by several ministers and examinations commissioner. Future of an entire generation is in jeopardy. Thousands of students are frustrated and they including the undergraduates in universities have vowed to take to streets. We would certainly join them,” he said adding, “Parents of candidates too are angry and demand justice.”
National Committee member of the MPS, Sujith Kuruvita also addressed the media.
