Kundasale Palace Moonstone Theft: Former CID DIG Prasad Ranasinghe Arrested

Former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Prasad Ranasinghe was arrested today (10) at around 11:45 am by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption in connection with the disappearance of a historic moonstone from the Udawatta archaeological site in Kundasale, belonging to King Sri Weera Parakrama Narendrasinghe, the last king of the Kandy era.

He has been charged with corruption for exerting undue influence on the investigations into the theft of this historical artifact, obstructing the investigation and aiding and abetting the suspects to evade the law. The arrested suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
