The JVP alleges that thugs of the government disrupted a leaflet distribution by the party in Moneragala this morning (Feb. 26). The party is involved in an island wide campaign to raise public awareness on bribery, corruption, wastage and other wrongdoings of the government through the distribution of leaflets, said its media unit.
The group of thugs, led by Moneragala Pradeshiya Sabha chairman Ratnaweera, arrived in Moneragala town around 11.30 am, disrupted the JVP activists and tried to create a clash, it said.

The JVP has promptly informed police, but the thugs continued to harass them even in front of policemen.
The party said it lodged a complaint with Moneragala Police.
Meanwhile, JVP secretary Tilvyn Silva led the leaflet distribution in Maharagama today.
K.D. Lalkantha, Vijitha Herath, Wasantha Samarasinghe, Wasantha Piyatissa, Nalinda Jayatissa and Anura Kumara Dissasnayake were due to lead the leaflet distributions in Balapitiya, Moneragala, Naththandiya, Ampara, Kalutara and Veyangoda respectively.
The JVP is also visiting houses in Matara, Badulla, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Kegalle, Ratnapura and Hambantota districts to raise public awareness.
