An Army Sergeant Major believed to have been involved in the mysterious abduction of journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda was taken into the custody at Kurunegala yesterday.
The Sergeant Major was arrested as a result of an urgent inquiry conducted by the CID yesterday, Police Headquarters sources said. Two former LTTE cadres were taken into custody by the CID several days ago over the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda who went missing in 2010.
The suspects arrested from Vavuniya had been identified as Kanapathipillai Suresh alias Satya Master and Sumathipalan Suresh alias Nagulan, the sources said. Meanwhile, a suspect had obtained five SIM cards under his name according to the Police investigations. Yesterday’s arrest was made on information obtained from these two suspects.
Several others have already bee identified in connection with the disappearance of Prageeth Eknaligoda, Police Headquarters said yesterday, adding that they too would be taken into the custody in the coming days
