Dr Nirmal Ranjith Devasiri Hospitalised Following Attack at Wimal – Vasu May Day Rally

Former FUTA president, Dr Nirmal Ranjith Devasiri, has been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital following an attack by a group of individuals in Kirulapana, Ada Derana reports quoting Police.

Informed sources told SLB that he was attack while observing the May Day rally organized by the pro-Rajapaksa Weerawansa- Vasude group.

Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara has told Ada Derana that the Senior Lecturer at the University of Colombo was assaulted near the Lalith Athulathmudali Grounds in Kirulapana, the location of a May Day rally.

Dr Devasiri, who served as the Chairman of the Federation of University Teachers Associations (FUTA) from 2012-2014,  is a leading figure of the Movement for Just Society led by Maduluwawe Sobhitha thero. He was threatened with death continuously under the Rajapaksa rule.
