Court of Appeal issues notice on Jaffna Commander, Army Commander

The Court of Appeal yesterday re-issued notice on the Jaffna Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, the Sri Lanka Army Commander and the Office-in-Charge of the Achchuveli Police Station, to be present in Court on February 29, 2012.

The notice is in respect of the Habaes Corpus application filed by family members of Kithnan Muruganandan and Lalith Kumara Weeraraj of Jaffna.

The petition said that these two persons were missing since December, 9 2011. They had been in the Jana-aragalaya Movement of the JVP.

J. C. Weliamuna appeared for the petitioner, Deputy Solicitor General Shavindra Fernando appeared for the respondents, the IGP and the Attorney General. The Jaffna Commander and the Sri Lanka Army Commander were not represented nor were they present in court, in person.

Hence, notice was re-issued on them.

TheBench comprised Justice H. N. J. Perera.

The petitioners requested the Court of Appeal, to direct the respondents, to produce in Court the alleged missing persons, who, according to Minister Rambukwella, were in detention custody, .
