Inspector General of Police Department of Sri Lanka,
Police Police Headquarters, Colombo 02

Dear Sir,
Subject: Urging Speedy Investigation into the Attack on Journalist in Kilinochchi

We are writing to bring to your attention a disturbing incident involving an attack and abduction attempt on journalist Mr. Murukaiya Thamilselvan in Kilinochchi last evening. It has been reported that he lodged an entry about the incident with the Kilinochchi Police before being admitted to the Kilinochchi Government Hospital.

We strongly condemn such acts of violence and abduction, which have no place in a democratic, free country. Over the past two decades, we have witnessed numerous killings, abductions, and attacks on journalists and media institutions, yet justice remains elusive for these incidents.

In light of this, we respectfully urge that a thorough and independent investigation be conducted into this attack, ensuring that those responsible are held accountable under the full extent of the law. We trust that you will ensure that Mr. Murukaiya Thamilselvan is afforded the protection and justice he deserves, enabling him to continue his work as a journalist in a safe and peaceful environment.

We kindly request your prompt and strong response to this matter.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent issue.

Yours faithfully,

Duminda Sampath, President

Ranga Bandaranayake  General Secretary
