“Assassinated Chairman of Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha had requested protection, but was denied by the IGP.”

A letter was issued in August 2025 to the IGP by the Chairman of the Weligama PS stating he faced threats to his life, including a planned assassination attempt either outside court or at the PS premises. He requested protection.

And you still believe he deserved to be killed? Everything the NPP is now bringing up about the slain Chairman was common knowledge six months ago. They raised it then and ended up looking foolish after resorting to staged abductions and shootings to hold on to power. The late Chairman won his ward in Midigama with 67% of the vote. He wasn’t handpicked through a national list. He earned his mandate directly from the people.

Now the Government conveniently calls it an “underworld issue.” But if these accusations are so old, how did he become Chairman under their watch? How did a “known criminal,” as they say, contest, win, and hold office when law and order was supposedly in their hands?

Yes, court cases are ongoing. But do you even know enough about the records to pass judgment? Most were filed during GR’s regime under corrupt police officials. Dig a little deeper before joining the government’s chorus.

Special protection for him and other SJB members was requested multiple times. The response? Silence. The armchair critics will say justice was served. As if the police in this country have never framed people before.

The duplicity is glaring. One minute they preach “system change,” the next they justify extrajudicial killings inside public offices. Everyone deserves their day in court. He was killed inside his official workplace, sitting on the very chair he was elected to occupy.

I’m not arguing with the same people I did six months ago. At this rate, everything under their watch will be brushed off as “underworld activity.” And when the same system turns on them, there’ll be no one left to cry for them.
