Kamal Gunaratne posing as Defense Secretary and issuing firing orders to the Army and making statements to the media

01) The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, with the connivance of the President, caused a mayhem  of violence in the country and subsequently announced his resignation on the 9th and the relevant gazette notification was made public that night.

02) According to Article 49.1 of the Constitution, when the office of the Prime Minister ceases, the Cabinet of Ministers are dissolved.

03) According to Article 52.3 of the Constitution, the secretaries of ministries should cease to hold office after the dissolution of the Cabinet.

04) In spite of that and in the absence of a Prime Minister or a Cabinet of Ministers, it is a serious matter for a person named Kamal Gunaratne to pretend to be the Defense Secretary and issue orders including firing orders to the security forces and issue statements to the media.

05) We demand that this person who is aiding and abetting the murder using state property be immediately arrested and produced in court.
