A Gazette notification has been issued establishing a Presidential Task Force to implement the government’s ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ programme.
The PTF has no Tamil or Muslim members. Out of 18 members, there is only one woman.
On X post former MP and presidential Council A. Sumatran sarcastically says that “Perhaps they are clean already or don’t need any state intervention”
The task force members include the Secretary to the President, the Commanders of the Tri-Forces, the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), and the Chairman of the Urban Development Authority (UDA).
According tot he gazette the programme is designed to foster the social, environmental, and ethical awakening of the country while strengthening environmental, economic, and social sustainability. It also aims to enhance the efficiency of state machinery to ensure the successful realisation of its objectives.
On X post former Human Rights Commissioner Ambika Satkunanathan says that :” @anuradisanayake has appointed a Task Force to “plan and implement the Clean Sri Lanka Programme”. There are many problems with this Task Force. – It is an ad-hoc mechanism appointed by the Prez and answers only to him. We do not need yet another Prez TF or Commission.”
The Presidential Task Force is tasked with Planning, guiding, implementing, reviewing the progress, and completing the “Clean Sri Lanka” programme within a given time frame aiming to achieve the objectives of elevating society to a more advanced status through a social, environmental and ethical awakening.
It is also tasked with creating an organisational structure to facilitate the implementation of this programme from the national level to the rural level.
